Q: Do you travel nationwide?

A: No; in general for our transportation services we stay within about 500 miles of Connecticut (See the coverage map) If you are transporting a horse/equine cross-country in a big trailer that refuses to come into New England, we are able to help coordinate a transfer to finish the last leg of the journey.

Q: What are the animal transport requirements?

A: We will not transport an animal under 8 weeks of age unless it is traveling with its mother and littermates. In order for us to transport cats and dogs they must have proof of current inoculations. Equines/horses must have a current health certificate (done within 30 days) and negative Coggins (done within the past year) in order for us to transport them. Dogs should wear a harness, and have a supply of food one-day beyond the anticipated trip length. Livestock must be haltered; we have halters available for rent at a reasonable price.

Q: What if my horse won't load into the transport trailer?

A: You and your horse know and trust each other; you bear primary responsibility for loading; I will assist at your direction. We allow 45 minutes from arrival time to load; extra time is $15 for 15 minutes. If we mutually decide the horse will not load into the transportation trailer, you will pay us $1.50/mile from Middletown to cover our round trip gas, tolls, and expenses.

Q: What will this animal transportation cost me?  And how soon can we get this done?

A: An ASAP animal transportation trip can usually be picked up within 3 days – sometimes sooner! If we have more time to find a backhaul so we are not driving home empty, the trips are more economical. Mileage is calculated from Middletown, CT to pickup to delivery and back to Middletown, CT. Pet rates range from $0.75 - $2.00/mile, depending on size and number of animals being transported. Equine transport services and livestock transportation is $1.00 - $2.50/mile.

Q: How is ASJ Animal Transport Service different from other transporters?

A: Household pets: many small animal transport services use a van with stacked cages; there may be up to 20 animals in there. Would you want to be the only kitten with 16 barking dogs? We consider your animal's mental well-being, and ALWAYS act in the best interest of the animal. We limit our loads to a maximum of 3 families; usually fewer than that depending on the size and number of animals being transported. We have no problem pulling over and cuddling a frightened animal.

Livestock and large animal transport services often have trailers that will transport 6 or more horses; a full trailer enables them to offer lower prices. Problem is, if the trailer isn't full, they may postpone, cancel, or just not show up. Then, a 500 mile trip turns into 3-4 days on the trailer while other horses are picked up/dropped off. We specialize in DIRECT animal transports. I only postpone/cancel in cases of bad weather when travel is unsafe. I actually delivered a pregnant cow while I had pneumonia--paid a friend to do most of the driving. We stop every 3-4 hours with livestock to refill hay, give fresh water, a treat, and some TLC.

Your animal deserves better than to be treated as "part of a load".
